Alung
alung grass is indigenous to Indonesia. The grass has a very decorative
effect both internally and externally, NO internal lining is required and
the ribbed effect of the rows of battens is a yellow to a golden glow,
requiring no finishing treatment.
Recommended
roof pitch is 35 degrees which is essential for longevity and water
proofness of your alung alung pavilion. Alung alung is totally waterproof
when fitted correctly.
Thatched
roofing is relatively new to Australia and we can only speculate on its
life expectancy. In Indonesia in ideal conditions 15 years is common
before some maintenance is required though Australia's rainfall is less
which may increase longevity.
The edge
can be finished in many styles - natural, feathered or wedge.
Alung
alung has a very high insulation quality. It can reduce the outside
temperature by 10 degrees.
Your
pavilion will over time change colour to a silver shade of grey.
Maximum
rafter spacing is 600mm, no less than 45mm in width. A wedge kicker is
required to run the circumference of the eaves at the ends of the rafters.
This wedge kicked is 25mm x 75mm. Your pavilion roof will end
approximately 500mm past this kicker.
Your
pavilion can also be treated with a fire retardant which is reapplied
every 12 to 18 months.
