The Pregnancy, Birth & Early Life of Dexter...

Chronicle of my first pregnancy, and the expected homebirth into water of my baby. This blog was started at 18 weeks of pregnancy (I was too lazy and tired to start before now!) and includes some flashbacks to the earlier days of the pregnancy... UPDATE 13/03/08: I have decided to continue this blog through the early months of Dex's life, and possibly beyond...

Seems my plans for a home birth are rubbbing off on pregnant friends!

We had some interesting news yesterday that I thought I should share here...

Dave works with a guy who he's hit it off with, they've become mates over the past couple of months and so he wanted me to meet the guy and his partner. We went to their place on New Year's - they were having a quiet night because she was due to give birth to their third child on January 7, but she felt it could happen anytime.

Anyhow, I got along wonderfully with them both and we were going to head over there on Saturday night (the 5th) to spend some time. But at the last minute I told Dave that I felt we should stay home, as I thought they might need to have some rest as they baby would be coming soon. I know I wouldn't want to be entertaining guests in the day or two before giving birth!

So we stayed home, but when we got up yesterday morning we had a message on the phone, sent in the early hours of the morning, saying she had given birth! To a third boy! Who came so fast, Jason had to deliver his new son on the floor of their bathroom!!!

Both Mum and baby are great, everything went well, and she'll be watched in hospital overnight just as a precaution because haemophilia apparently runs in her family.

But how cool is that??? I haven't spoken to Jo yet, but I told Jason "Please tell Josephine from me that yes she CAN home birth!" hehe :) We'd talked about home birth on New Year's Eve, and she'd said that while she had drug-free natural births both times before, she liked the safety of the hospital setting. But she thought that it was great I was having one!

Well Jo - join the club! :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the new bubba - maybe tonight if I'm lucky and they feel up to visitors! Everything suddenly seems SO much more real... yikes!

Ok back to the cleaning now - so much to DO!!! :)
